Process

    1. Golden bamboo that is more than three years old is cut between nodes with one end open and the other closed.
    2. The sun-dried salt from the west coast of Korea is minced and put fully into the cut bamboo receptacle.
    3. Mud, free of fertilizing properties, is collected from deep in the mountains.ย  Sand is removed from the mud and thick dough is made out of the mud.ย  With this, the inlet of the bamboo receptacle is closed.
    4. The bamboo receptacles containing salt are set together densely in two to three layers with the mud side up and a fire is made in a furnace. Here, a small amount of chemical resin is added to enhance the fire power. The bamboo salt is dissolved by the fire power and flows down and becomes hard like stone.
    5. After the bamboo has burned out, the charcoal in the drum is picked out and the salt is sorted. Among the salt, lumos are pounded roughly in a mortar and then they are put in the drum to be roasted again. With this cycle, roasting is repeated eight times.
    6. In the final ninth roasting, the fire burns only with chemical resin so as not to make ashes. With high temperature heat at thousands of degrees, salt melts down like water. This becomes like a lump of stone once the fire goes out.

    Description

    Bamboo salt is a Korean folk remedy often referred to as โ€œmedicinal salt.โ€ย  Ocksujung has made a breakthrough with their innovative roasting method.ย  This bamboo salt is roasted in a bamboo stalk nine times to rid it of any impurities.ย  This method produces compounds such as pine tree resin, red clay and iron which are impenetrable to pollution.ย  All the materials are sourced from the west coast of Korea where the environment is purer.ย  The outcome is something truly special.

    The taste is uniquely bold in its saltiness with notes of egg yolk and sweetness.ย  Because of its strong medicinal effects, those new to bamboo salt may feel nauseous at first as the salt allows their body to detoxify.ย  It is recommended that you begin with โ…“ of a teaspoon (a pinch)ย  2-3 times a day and gradually increase the amount after 15-30 days.ย  Just place it in your mouth and let the salt dissolve.

    Depending on your preference, choose coarse or fine bamboo salt.ย  Coarse means that the salt crystals are still fully intact. Fine salt, on the other hand, is ground to create a powder consistency.

    For the best experience, consume with field garlic.ย  Roast five to ten cloves of field garlic in a frying pan until soft. Peel cloves and sprinkle with bamboo salt before consuming.
