Description

Traditionally, a soban is a low, personal Korean table used for floor seating. Artist Ha Ji Hoon reinterprets this form with the Naju Tray—a minimalist, modern take on the classic naju soban.

Part of his Ban Clear series, this tray is available with or without a translucent polycarbonate cover, inspired by the elegant curves of hanok rooftops, a signature of traditional Korean architecture. The clear material reveals the tray’s joinery and inner structure, highlighting the beauty of Korean craftsmanship. Made from durable polycarbonate—200 times stronger than glass and 30 times stronger than acrylic—the tray is not only sculptural but functional for daily use.

Use it as a serving tray, table centerpiece, or decorative accent piece. The Naju Tray brings Korean design heritage into modern interiors with timeless style.

일반적으로 테이블은 여러 명이 둘러 앉아 하나를 사용하지요.  그러나 한국의 소반은 한 사람을 위한 독상입니다.  지역에 따라 다른 형상을 가지고 낮은 높의는 우리 고유의 좌식문화를 상징적으로 보여주지요. 하지훈 작가는 이 고유한 형태를 현대적인 감각으로 재해석해, 나주 소반에서 영감을 받은 나주 트레이를 선보였어요.

Kim’C Market이 소개하는 하지훈 작가의 반 (Ban) 시리즈 중 반 클리어 작품은 반투명 소재를 사용하여 전통이 사라지지 않고 마치 유령처럼 우리 곁에 있다는 것을 보여 줍니다.  기존의 소반과 형태는 같지만 반투명 재질은 결합 구조가 드러나면서 소반의 아름다운 구조미학을 여과없이 드러내지요.  폴리카보네이트는 일반 유리의 200배, 아크릴의 30배 강도를 가져 전통과 신소재가 만나 새로운 전통을 만들지요.

옛날을 떠올리게 하기 보다는 힙한 느낌으로 모던한 인테리어에 자연스럽게 어우러질 수 있는 소반이에요.  전통적인 것과 새로운 것의 조합으로 세련되고 감각 있게 완성되는 작품들은 하나 하나 모두를 소장하고 싶게 만드네요.  특히 선택 가능한 커버는 한옥 지붕의 곡선을 연상시키며, 반투명 소재와 감각적인 컬러는 어떤 공간에도 현대적인 조형미를 더해줄 거에요. 

About

Ha Ji Hoon is a multidisciplinary artist based out of South Korea focusing on representing traditional Korean style in contemporary ways. His reinterpretation of tradition is not simply combining the past and the present but instead showcasing traditional craftsmanship while maintaining modern day functionality and practicality.

Ha has held many solo and group shows around the world. Namely: Seoul National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Philadelphia Museum of Arts, Victoria & Albert Museum (UK), and Frankfurt Museum of Applied Arts.

작가 하지훈은 한국적인 아름다움을 모던하게 가장 잘 표현하는 가구 디자이너라는 수식어가 잘 어울립니다.  모던한 스타일의 구조와 라인을 지녔으면서도 한국의 전통적인 요소들을 절묘하게 응용한 것이 특징인데요.  하지훈 작가의 전통에 대한 재해석은 단순히 과거와 현대를 섞는 것이 아닌, 전통 공예품의 깊이를 존중하며 현대의 감각과 라이프스타일을 반영한 디자인으로서 한국 특유의 미학을 가구에 담아내고 있습니다.

2008년 개인전을 시작으로 한국, 두바이, 일본, 미국, 이탈리아 등 국내외 다수의 개인전, 그룹전 등을 통해 작품들을 선보이고 있어요.  작품들은 현재 국립현대미술관, 필라델피아 미술관 (미국), 빅토리아& 알버트 뮤지엄 (영국), 프랑크푸르트 응용 미술 박물관 (독일) 등에 소장되어 있습니다.
