That hand-chiseled texture isn't just beautiful; it keeps rice from sticking. Finished with natural beeswax, each paddle carries its own unique color and grain, so no two are exactly alike.

Choose warm, deeper-toned Walnut or light, bright Birch—each bringing out the wood's natural character in its own way.

Approx. 23 cm (length) × 7.5 cm (width). (Handmade, so slight variations are natural.)

Care & maintenance
Hand wash only; no dishwasher. Don't soak in water for more than an hour. Wipe dry, and oil occasionally with any food-safe oil to keep it beautiful for years.

Each Pattern Rice Paddle is hand-carved from a single piece of solid wood—no joins, no shortcuts. The inside is worked with a hand chisel into a fine, stitch-like pattern, shaped one small cut at a time. Beyond its quiet beauty, that texture serves a purpose: it keeps cooked rice from sticking, making serving and storing rice effortless. Finished with natural beeswax, every piece reveals its own grain and color, so the one you receive is truly one of a kind.

패턴 밥주걱은 통나무 한 조각을 손으로 깎아 만듭니다. 이음새도, 지름길도 없어요. 안쪽 면은 손끌로 한 번 한 번, 수를 놓듯 섬세한 무늬로 다듬었습니다. 이 질감은 고요한 아름다움을 넘어 쓰임도 있어요. 밥알이 들러붙지 않아 밥을 뜨고 담기가 한결 수월하죠. 천연 밀랍으로 마감해 저마다 다른 나뭇결과 빛깔이 살아 있어, 받으시는 한 점은 세상에 하나뿐입니다.

Janis Crate is a handcrafted woodworking studio making practical, everyday kitchen and table pieces—for a life that cherishes old things and moves a little more slowly.

The studio was born from woodworker Choi Jae-jin's love of the craft. What began as carving small wooden items grew into something quieter and more meditative: for Choi, the sound of wood being shaped by a hand tool is a kind of meditation, and every piece carries a little of that stillness.

Everything here starts from real, everyday use. Each design begins with something Choi wanted in his own home, then goes through round after round of testing until it's genuinely worth keeping. His guiding belief is simple: everyday objects should be simple, practical, and long-lasting—things you cherish and use for years, not replace.

작업실은 목공을 사랑하는 최재진 작가로부터 시작되었어요. 작은 나무 소품을 깎던 일이 점차 더 고요하고 명상적인 작업으로 이어졌죠. 최재진 작가에게 손도구로 나무를 다듬는 소리는 일종의 명상이며, 모든 작품에는 그 고요함이 조금씩 담겨 있습니다.

이곳의 모든 물건은 실제 일상의 쓰임에서 출발해요. 최재진 작가가 집에서 직접 쓰고 싶었던 물건에서 디자인이 시작되고, 정말로 곁에 둘 만한 물건이 될 때까지 여러 번의 테스트를 거칩니다. 그의 믿음은 단순합니다—일상의 물건은 단순하고, 실용적이며, 오래 쓸 수 있어야 한다는 것. 쉽게 바꾸는 물건이 아니라, 소중히 여기며 오래도록 곁에 두는 물건을 지향합니다.
