Scraping the last of the jam from a tall, narrow jar is one of those small daily annoyances an ordinary spoon just can't solve. This one is made for exactly that reach — a slim handle that goes all the way to the bottom, and a narrow bowl that slips past the rim without scraping. Hand-carved from a single piece of solid wood and finished with natural beeswax, no two are quite alike. It's a small tool, shaped with real care, that brings a little grace to something as simple as the last spoonful of jam.

키 크고 좁은 병 바닥에 잼이나 꿀이 조금 남았을 때, 일반숟가락으로는 손이 잘 닿지 않죠. 이 긴 스푼은 바로 그 깊이를 위해 만들었어요. 가느다란 손잡이가 바닥까지 닿고, 좁은 머리는 병 입구에 걸리지 않습니다. 통나무 한 조각을 손으로 깎아 천연 밀랍으로 마감했고, 저마다 결과 빛깔이 달라 똑같은 것은 하나도 없어요. 작지만 정성 들여 깎은 도구라, 잼 한 술을 마저 뜨는 사소한 순간에도 다정함이 묻어납니다.

Made for the bottom of the jar

Most spoons are the wrong shape for a tall jam or honey jar — the handle's too short, the bowl too wide. This one is carved from a single piece of solid wood with a long, slim handle that reaches all the way down and a narrow bowl that fits through the neck without catching the rim. There are no joins and no shortcuts; the whole piece is worked from one block, then finished with natural beeswax that brings out the grain. Choose deep-toned walnut or bright birch — each carries the wood's own character.

How to use it

Beyond jam and honey, the long handle earns its keep across the kitchen and the bar: reaching into deep jars of preserves, nut butters, or mustard; stirring a tall glass of iced tea or coffee; or muddling herbs, citrus, and sugar in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Like all wooden pieces, it's happiest hand-washed and dried rather than left to soak — never in the dishwasher, and away from high heat, which can warp or crack wood over time. Rub in a little food-safe oil now and then, and it only grows warmer and more beautiful the longer you use it.

잼과 꿀뿐 아니라 긴 손잡이 덕에 주방에서도 바에서도 두루 쓰여요. 잼·견과 버터·머스터드처럼 깊은 병 바닥까지 닿아야 하는 곳에, 키 큰 아이스티나 커피를 저을 때, 셰이커 바닥에서 허브와 시트러스, 설탕을 으깨는 머들링 스푼으로도요. 다른 나무 제품처럼 손으로 씻어 물기를 닦고, 오래 담가두지만 않으면 돼요. 식기세척기와 고열은 피해 주세요. 고온에 반복 노출되면 나무가 뒤틀리거나 갈라질 수 있거든요. 가끔 식용유(푸드 세이프 오일)를 얇게 발라주면 쓸수록 색이 깊어지고, 오래도록 아름답게 길들여집니다.

이곳의 모든 물건은 실제 일상의 쓰임에서 출발해요. 최재진 작가가 집에서 직접 쓰고 싶었던 물건에서 디자인이 시작되고, 정말로 곁에 둘 만한 물건이 될 때까지 여러 번의 테스트를 거칩니다. 그의 믿음은 단순합니다—일상의 물건은 단순하고, 실용적이며, 오래 쓸 수 있어야 한다는 것. 쉽게 바꾸는 물건이 아니라, 소중히 여기며 오래도록 곁에 두는 물건을 지향합니다.
