KimlyParc's instant coffee begins as real espresso. The beans are 100% specialty coffee from Honduras and Guatemala, washed and roasted medium-dark in small batches; the espresso is extracted, then freeze-dried into fine crystals and packed one serving to a stick. Stirred into water, it opens up nutty and round, with a note of black cherry on the finish. It dissolves in seconds, hot or cold, so there is no machine to warm up and nothing to clean afterward.

Soil Baker D Mug

The D Mug is one of Soil Baker's everyday shapes. It is low and wide, with a slim, open handle, and it holds 250ml, about the size of a generous Americano or a small latte. It is lighter in the hand than it looks, and it goes into the dishwasher and microwave without fuss, which is why it tends to become the cup that is always on the desk.

How to make it

For an Americano, stir one stick into about 7 oz of hot water. For a latte, dissolve it in a splash of hot water and top with about 6 oz of warm or cold milk. On hot days, shake a stick with cold water and ice for an iced coffee in under a minute. It also works in the kitchen: pour a stick dissolved in a spoonful of hot water over a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a quick affogato, or stir it into brownie batter or whipped cream for tiramisu.
