Herbs chosen for women

Song Kang Dang made Hwaryeon as an herbal tea for women, for what it calls every woman's new beginning. At its center are angelica root, cnidium, peony root, and prepared rehmannia. In Korean traditional medicine these four herbs together are known as samultang, long regarded as the classic combination for women. Hwaryeon adds kudzu, astragalus, ginger, jujube, freeze-dried Korean silkworm, and a little Vietnamese cinnamon, all on a base of Jeju honey, with licorice and xylitol rounding out the sweetness instead of sugar.

Pressed, not mixed

Rather than blending ready-made extracts, Song Kang Dang grinds and presses each raw ingredient, then concentrates the liquid so it goes down smoothly. The taste is warm and layered: honeyed sweetness up front, the spice of ginger and cinnamon in the middle, and the earthy, slightly bitter depth of the roots at the end, like a strong cup of Korean ssanghwa tea.

How to drink it

Shake the pouch well and drink one pouch at a time. Hold it in the mouth for a moment before swallowing to taste the full range of the herbs. It is good at room temperature, or poured into a cup and warmed gently on a cold day. In Korea it is a favorite gift for mothers, especially around Parents' Day in May and on birthdays.

여성을 위해 고른 약재

송강당 화련은 '모든 여성들의 새 시작을 위한' 한방차로 만들어졌습니다. 중심에는 당귀와 천궁, 작약, 숙지황이 있어요. 한의학에서 '사물탕(四物湯)'이라 부르는 이 네 가지 약재의 배합은 예부터 여성을 위한 대표적인 배합으로 꼽혀 왔습니다. 화련은 여기에 칡과 황기, 생강, 대추, 동결건조한 국내산 누에와 베트남산 계피를 조금 더하고, 제주 벌꿀로 바탕을 잡았어요. 단맛은 설탕 대신 감초와 자일리톨로 다듬었습니다.

섞지 않고 짜낸 차

송강당은 시판 추출액을 섞는 대신 원물을 하나하나 갈고 착즙한 뒤, 목넘김이 부드럽도록 농축합니다. 맛은 따뜻하고 겹겹이 쌓입니다. 처음엔 꿀의 단맛, 가운데엔 생강과 계피의 알싸함, 끝에는 뿌리 약재의 흙내 나는 쌉싸름한 깊이가 남아요. 진하게 달인 쌍화차 한 잔을 떠올리게 합니다.

Song Kang Dang traces its roots to 1920, when Yu Gap-ryong opened the Daemyung Korean medicine clinic in Busan. His son Yu Do-taek went on to open the Song Kang Dang herbal shop in Yeongdo, Busan; the craft passed to Yu Deok-su in the third generation and now to Yu Jae-hyun, who leads Song Kang F&B. Yu Do-taek completed his studies at the College of Oriental Medicine, the forerunner of today's Kyung Hee University, in 1962, and qualified with the Korean Herbal Medicine Association in 1984. For decades the family supplied its preparations only to Korean medicine clinics, herbal hospitals, and a small circle of customers. Song Kang F&B was founded to bring them to everyday tables as foods, keeping to the same principles: consistent family methods, carefully chosen whole ingredients, and no synthetic additives.

송강당의 뿌리는 1920년 초대 유갑룡 선생이 부산에 개원한 '대명한의원'입니다. 이후 2대 유도택 선생이 부산 영도에 '송강당 한약방'을 열었고, 3대 유덕수 선생을 거쳐 지금은 4대 유재현 대표가 송강F&B를 이끌고 있습니다. 2대 유도택 선생은 1962년 동양의학대학(현 경희대학교의 전신)을 수료하고, 1984년 대한한약협회 자격을 취득했습니다. 오랫동안 국내 주요 한의원과 한방병원, 소수의 고객에게만 한정해 공급해 왔으며, 이를 일상의 식탁에서도 만날 수 있도록 식품으로 선보이고자 송강F&B를 세웠습니다. 한결같은 집안의 제조법, 엄선한 원물, 합성 첨가물을 쓰지 않는 원칙은 그대로 지키고 있습니다.
