Miyeok-guk is Korean seaweed soup made with miyeok, also known as sea mustard. It is a warm, savory soup traditionally eaten on birthdays and after childbirth in Korea.

  • Cut in Pieces Seaweed Mustard (Miyeok)
    Wild-harvested in Wando, Jeollanam-do. Pre-cut, no soaking needed. 30g pack serves 5 to 6 people.
  • One Tablet Natural Seafood Stock
    16 Korean ingredients, freeze-dried into one tablet. Drop it in before the water boils and the broth builds itself.
  • Jeju Traditional Fish Sauce (250 ml)
    15 months naturally fermented from Jeju horse mackerel. Sweeter and lighter than anchovy sauce. The secret to a clear, clean broth.

Description

Cooking instruction:

Ingredients

  • 1 pack Cut in Pieces Miyeok
  • 6 tablets Natural Seafood Stock
  • 2 tbsp Jeju Traditional Fish Sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 4 tablets chopped garlic
  • ½ tsp Salt, to taste
  • 300g beef brisket or beef chunks
  • 8 cups water

Steps

1. Rinse the miyeok briefly under cold water. No soaking needed. It rehydrates as it cooks.
2. Heat sesame oil in a pot over medium heat. Add seaweed and beef. Stir-fry 3 to 4 min until beef is no longer pink.
3. Drop in garlic tablets and stir 30 seconds. Pour in water and add the seafood stock tablet. Bring to a boil.
4. Reduce to medium-low and simmer uncovered for 20 min.
5. Season with Jeju fish sauce and Salt to taste. Serve hot with steamed rice.
